# Matters

> Use the matter hub tabs, change status, and configure ethical walls.

The matter hub is the central workspace for each client engagement. Open any matter from **Matters** in the sidebar.

## Overview tab

The Overview tab shows the matter status pipeline: Enquiry, Active, On hold, Closing, and Closed.

To change status, click the status badge and select the new state. Status changes are logged on the Timeline tab.

The parties panel lists the client, counterparties, and external counsel. The matter reference number is auto-assigned when the matter is created.

## Documents tab

The Documents tab is the matter's document library. Upload files, search by title, and filter by document status: Draft, Review, or Approved.

## Correspondence tab

Filed emails and messages linked to this matter appear here. Each matter has a dedicated email address. Forward correspondence to that address to file it automatically.

## Tasks tab

Create tasks, assign them to matter members, and set due dates. Overdue tasks appear on the home dashboard. Task status options include To do, In progress, Blocked, and Done.

## Timeline tab

The Timeline is an auto-generated chronological log of all matter events. It cannot be edited manually. Every status change, document upload, and team change is recorded here.

## Relationships tab

View counterparties, related entities, and cross-matter connections. Use this tab to understand how parties connect across your portfolio.

## Team tab

The Team tab lists matter members and their matter roles. Add or remove members from this tab.

### Ethical walls

An ethical wall restricts specific users or teams from accessing a matter, even if they belong to the same organisation.

    Select the users or teams to block and save the configuration.

<Warning>
  Users blocked by an ethical wall cannot see the matter in search or the matter list, even if they
  are in the same organisation.

## Billing tab

The Billing tab shows time entries for this matter, invoices linked to the matter, and a WIP summary.
