# Channels

> Secure firm messaging with matter scope and audit coverage.

Largence Channels is secure firm messaging with matter scope and full audit coverage.

## Conversation types

| Type             | Description                                                                                          |
| ---------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Matter channels  | Auto-created per matter. Visible to the matter team.                                                 |
| Document threads | Conversations attached to a specific document.                                                       |
| Portal threads   | Messaging with clients who do not have a Largence account. Appear in Channels and the client portal. |
| Direct messages  | Private messages between firm members.                                                               |

## Real-time features

Channels supports typing indicators, read receipts, presence status, and message reactions.

## Unread notifications

The badge count on the Channels icon shows unread messages across all conversations. Clicking a notification deep-links to the relevant thread.

## File attachments

Send files in any conversation. Flag an attachment as evidence to register it in the Evidence workspace for the linked matter.

## Search

Use the search bar in Channels to run full-text search across all conversations in your organisation.

## Relay fallback

If the messaging service is temporarily unavailable, Largence falls back to relay mode. Messages still deliver, but real-time features such as typing indicators may be delayed until the service recovers.
